Have you lost that loving feeling? At work, I mean. When you’ve been slogging away for a long time, even if you’ve achieved some notable success, it can happen. You’re just not as excited as you were at the beginning. You don’t get butterflies about your business like you used to.
It’s more common than you’d think.
But if you’re committed to a long and satisfying relationship with your business, you need to take the time to invest some energy to keeping that love alive. Here are four ways to do that.
Let go of past disappointment & failure.
It’s inevitable that when things don’t work out sometimes, you blame your team or yourself. But if you hang onto the negative feelings, they can become a perpetual source of discontent. Instead, just determine why the project failed and make plans to ensure things go better next time. Forgive the mistakes.
And move on. It’s that simple.
Refocus on the mission & vision.
Why did you start your business in the first place? What was the original dream? What are your goals? Not just for this year, but 10 years from now? Try by creating (or updating) a mission statement. A good one should be just one succinct sentence and speaks to the benefits for customers, owners, and employees. Make it into a mantra!
Make it a point to recognize your team’s successes. When you reach goals, congratulate everyone who worked to achieve them. Each time a team member does something great, acknowledge them in a meaningful way. That could be an email sent to the group, an award or certificate of appreciation, or even a spot bonus. When people feel that their contributions are appreciated, it creates goodwill and strengthens morale.
Delegate to an OBM!
The number one most effective way to rekindle the spark is to offload the daily business operations to an online business manager.
Why? Because if you have operations, metrics, project management, and team supervision handled by an OBM you’ll have time to do all of these things. You’ll have more time to devote to activities you love most about your business. You’ll feel less stressed and bored because you won’t be doing any of the dull routine work that takes you away from the heart of your business. And you can get back together with what you fell in love with at the beginning.
